By the Black Sea is Lake of Tears' first ever live album and is also available in the DVD format. It was recorded in Bucharest in 2013 with the line-up of Daniel Brennare on guitar and vocals, with Fredrik Jordanius on guitars, assisted by Mikael Larsson's bass joined in the rhythm section by drummer Johan Oudhuis. In my review of the last Lake of Tears platter Illwill I noted that the band's worldview is hardly a festival of fun and neither is this album. That said, the job of this band isn't exactly to provide us with escapist fun and the heavier sounds of the tracks from Illwill, especially the title song and "House Of The Setting Sun", fit in well with the back catalogue and the punch version of "The Greymen" is very welcome indeed.
