Teramaze: Esoteric Symbolism

What in the hell is going on in the waters of Australia? There have been a bunch of amazing bands hailing from that country that are just unbelievable and now there is another one, Teramaze! This is one hell of a tremendous Progressive Metal quartet, combining the sounds of Tool, Karnivool, Soilwork, Periphery and Dream Theater, all the while forging their own unique identity. Also to emerge from this band will be a new guitar shred monster named, Dean Wells, whose articulately modern Prog Metal guitar prowess is evident on every single track, without being too self serving. These guys KILL!!

Esoteric Symbolism"(Nightmare Records) is Teramaze's latest release and also their 4th effort that contains 13 tracks of stellar songwriting, brilliant musicianship and slick packaging. With an immaculate production, Teramaze manages to push the ideas of the modern Prog Metal field. Precise and tight instrumental performances throughout, Esoteric Symbolism just seems to get better and better with each additional listen. From the CD instrumental opener of, "All Seeing Eye", Dean Wells and Co. throw down some incredibly cool styling's and then with each successive song they find a way of pushing the envelope. Think of a Dream Theater on steroids without the unnecessary over indulgence! Songs like the title track, "Esoteric Symbolism" and "The Divulgence" showcase what the band is all about. Tight guitars anchored with super precise rhythm's with soaring vocals splashed in, all within a spatial tapestry that is unending. This is some of the best "Groove Laden" Metal that I have come across in a long time.

The other members of Teramaze along with guitar player Dean Wells, Brett Rerekura – Vocals, John Zambelis – Guitar and Dean Kennedy – Drums are no slouches either, all providing their own virtuoso performances. Brett Rerekura's vocals are quite enjoyable, with a reminiscence to the vocals of Karnivool and with a slight nod to Maynard of Tool, very unique especially in this Metal world of Screamo and Cookie Monster rants.

Teramaze's Esoteric Symbolism heads my Top of 2014 list so far and is an absolute marvel to listen to over and over! With the power of a Pantera, the groove of a Periphery, the mystique of a Karnivool and the musicianship of a Dream Theater, all without sounding like any of their peers, Teramaze have made an instant fan out of me. Add in the guitar pyro of Dean Wells (already an Ernie Ball/Music Man endorsee) and Teramaze certainly have a bright future. Let's all hope that the guys are able to get over to the shores of the USA! Check out this record, RIGHT NOW!! You won't be disappointed in the least. This record is totally killer!
