A Tree of Signs: Saturn

This is a single, not an EP or a full-length album. In total, the music adds up to about ten minutes. Having said that, it's a delightful ten minutes; "Saturn," the closing track, is especially strong, a smooth and polished foray into psychedelic / occult rock. The other two tracks are also pretty good. These guys have a knack for bringing groove to their playing and Diana Silveira's voice is soulful and wide-ranging. She suits the mood beautifully; I especially liked her voice on "Red II."

A Tree of Signs ought to have a bright future. They only have one EP to their name—and now this. Their last vocalist, V-Kaos, left the band not long after the EP's release. I don't know what she's doing, but a brief internet search suggests that it may be more of a black metal project than the big and beefy rock of this release. Finding a new singer is tricky, especially when a debut is pretty strong. I have a feeling, though, that A Tree of Signs has life in them. And, as I mentioned above, Diana Silveira has a convincing voice. My suggestion: listen to "Saturn;" if you like the vibe on that track, you'll probably dig the other two tracks.
