Brood of Hatred: Skinless Agony

We don't often hear about extreme metal coming from North Africa, but Tunisian band Brood of Hatred are trying to change all that with their debut Skinless Agony. The four-piece of Muhammed Melki (bass, vocals), Muhammed Bouchir (guitars), Melik Melek Khelifa (guitars), and Hazem Jaziri (drums) play a crushing form of textured, technical death metal, sure to be of immediate interest to fans of Gorguts, Immolation, Nile, and Opeth. Most of the songs here on Skinless Agony fall within the 4-10 minute time frame, so there is plenty of room for the band to weave their intricate, brutal, and highly dramatic musical passages. "Obsession" is the longest track at just under 10-minutes, and ebbs & flows with plenty of menace, as Melki's deep growls pounce and stab through layers of thick, riffs and busy rhythms. Some of the more technical tracks, like "Deconstruction", "The Mind That Emerged", and "Cacophony in the Creation", contain no shortage of massive, churning riffs and relentless blastbeats, while the title track adds some ominous atmosphere amidst all the fury.

For a band that's only been together for a short time, Brood of Hatred show plenty of maturity here on their debut, and I think it's only a matter of time before the rest of the death metal legions catches on. Recommended.
