Linda and the Punch: Linda and the Punch
Described by her record label as, "Pink meets Pat Benatar," twenty-one year old Linda (alongside the Punch) has produced her eponymously-titled debut album. My first impressions weren't good, let me explain why. As is often the way I do things I went to the song I already knew, in this case a cover of the Springsteen/Patti Smith classic "Because the Night". I wish I hadn't as it's horrible and undermines much of the good work done on the rest of the album.
With songs from Jeff Franzel (Taylor Dayne, NSync, Chuck Wicks), Steve McEwan (Robbie Willams, Foreigner, Eminem, James Blunt, Roger Daltrey), Herman Rarebell (Scorpions), Tommy Denander (Paul Stanley, Swedish Teen Idol) Linda and her troops have put together a highly likable CD full of hooks and biting riffs. I could definitely see the young people grabbing hold of this one and taking it to their collective bosom. Modern rock generally isn't my thing but this is a pleasant surprise as beyond the cover version all the tracks are at least tolerable and some such as "Looking Out For Number One" have definite hit potential.
