Diabulus In Musica: Argia

Argia is the third Diabulus In Musica release, and they are one metal group with a very bright future. This Spanish band won me over with their prior albums Secrets and The Wanderer and Diabulus In Musica have now blown me away with Argia. Diabulus In Musica has gone through some line-up changes since that last release, and they sure have come back stronger than ever.

Uniting that addictive potent symphonic material with the mesmerising voice of female vocalist Zuberoa Aznarez and darker male vocals, yes it's a merger that we have experienced many times before but not always this successful. If you are yet to hear Diabulus In Musica then I would encourage that you do particularly if you have a fondness for the bands Sirenia, Epica or just enjoy a great female fronted metal band. English isn't the only language you will hear and the band also incorporate some cultural influences all adding to the overall magnetism of this album.

"Et Resurrexit (Libera Me)" sweeps you away to another time as Zuberoa Aznarez sounds quite angelic, but the metal beast soon rises as the bombastic "From The Embers" is so wickedly intense with Diabulus In Musica unleashing the power of say Scar Symmetry combined with a wonderful orchestral sound and female vocals. "Inner Force" has quite a heavy feel and captivating chorus and you could say that "Spoilt Vampire" is outstanding, the intense music is ultra addictive like Nightwish on steroids, as those devilish growls and destructive riffs are supported by an all out barrage of drum patterns. Vocally this album is a big hit, there are also two vocalists who make guest appearances, they are Ailyn Giménez(Sirenia) on "Furia De Libertad" and Thomas Vikström (ex-Candlemass,Stormwind/Therion ) on "Encounter At Chronos' Maze" a song with an epic Therion feel. There are lighter inclusions though metal is the dominant ingredient and "Healing" sure has that featuring a catchy metallic groove and some well suited vigorous musicianship.

Is metal the best kind music or what? I certainly think so thanks to quality albums like Argia. This is Diabulus In Musica's most complete and ultimately finest work to date.
