Stormwarrior: Thunder & Steele

As a fan of classic European power metal I have indeed found plenty to like on the releases of Stormwarrior. The German group was founded in 1998 inspired by 80's heavy/speed/power metal with themes of Nordic Mythology Stormwarrior went onwards to create so many exhilarating songs.

While never deviating greatly from their energetic style with each new album Stormwarrior have consistently impressed be it their debut Stormwarrior or the following releases Northern Rage, Heading Northe and Heathen Warrior. So have they done it again in 2014? Well the musical warriors now release their fifth Thunder & Steele and it seems you can never have enough songs about hammers or steel for that matter. Unlike their two prior albums there is no overall concept in the lyrics of this album. Though with the order of the song titles you can easily imagine that this could have been on epic tale as that "Thunder & Steele" is unleashed by the one known as "Metal Avenger" with his mighty "Sacred Blade" as the one who was "Ironborn" must do battle with the "Steelcrusader" by the "Fyres In The Nighte" failure isn't an option as he shall not "Die By The Hammer" the Metal Avenger must save the "Child Of Fyre", but in the end "One Will Survive" and become the true "Servant Of Metal", or something along those lines.

Commencing with the title track "Thunder & Steele" as Stormwarrior's metal erupts in classic speed/power metal fashion something which you would expect to hear on Thunder & Steele the kind that Stormwarrior and others like Gamma Ray do so well. The guitars of "Sacred Blade" sound so good and that electrifying solo steals the show, then you have more hard driving catchy metal tracks like "Fyres In The Nighte" and "Steelcrusader" as their guitars also scream to the heavens, and with that slow potent Manowar like feel Stormwarrior's speed is cut back as the "Children Of Fyre" unite. So yes they have done it again as Thunder & Steele is one of Stormwarrior's best albums to date while Heading Northe still remains my favourite thanks to great songs like "Iron Gods".
