Returning after a considerable period since their prior release which was 1993's The Heritage is the German band Protector who have a new album called Reanimated Homunculus.
Forming originally in the eighties and with a number of albums to their name Protector then called it a day in 2003, but this wasn't to be the end as eventually they reunited and Protector are sounding impressive on this their comeback release. Featuring the snarling sinister vocals of original vocalist Martin Missy and that powerful dark thrash/death metal though Reanimated Homunculus does lean more towards the thrash side.
Reanimated Homunculus caters so very well for fans of classic thrash with energetic songs such as "Sons Of Kain", this experienced band wanted Reanimated Homunculus to feature an "80's thrash metal sound" and it sure has that and a raw feel which is so well suited to their songs. "Deranged Nymphomania" is as intense as it's title and Protector's drummer is kept very active with the multiple tempo shifts. Throughout this album like any good thrash release Protector don't forget the hooks in their songs such as on the rapid thrasher "Holiday In Hell" and they do so without diminishing the power of their material.
Through the years some of the best thrash metal you will hear has been recorded by German groups, and Protector are doing their part on Reanimated Homunculus to uphold that long time tradition. Kreator, Sodom and Destruction continue to impress and if you're a fan of those and similar bands then take the time to check out Reanimated Homunculus.
