Jaldaboath: The Further Adventures

If you don't like cock or fart jokes then really you need read no further as we delve into the weird, wacky and ever so slightly tacky world of Templar-Metal act Jaldaboath. The band themselves site Monty Python as a reference point, but I'd suggest that Black Adder or even The Two Ronnies might be closer to the mark, as I can imagine Ronnie Corbett singing the chorus of opener "Roland The Farter" much more easily than I can John Cleese. That said, unless you're a real prude, there are chuckles aplenty on The Further Adventures, with tales of sausages, luncheon meat and "The J Team" all recounted with tongue (and other appendages) firmly stuck in cheeks....

Cleverly however it is the fuzzed up riffs and cheesy keyboard/renaissance sounds that really capture the imagination and keep you interested, as classic Metal tracks are rudely refurbished, alongside classic UK and US TV show title music. "The Wailing Witch Of Moulscoomb" bastardises Metallica's "Enter Sandman" through handclaps and tales of smelly unwashed hags, before morphing into the title music from Eastenders. At first you kind of shake your head in a "I know that from somewhere" kind of way, but as Airwolf, "Cockett's Theme" from Miami Vice, Black Beauty, The A-Team and (I think) the theme to the UK kids show Charlie Chalk (although it must be "Peggy Sue"!) all come and go, you soon get used to the silly trickery which weaves throughout the riffage, nods to Maiden's "The Trooper" and sounds that range from odd parps (keys and posterior emitted) to pigs snorting. Yes, it's all remarkably silly but somehow not quite in the throwaway manner it really should be and (un)fortunately you soon find yourself singing songs about farm animals, flatulence, dwarves, whores and cock washing, at the least opportune moments (is there ever an opportune moment for this sort of thing....?) - proving that what Jaldaboath do is catchy as hell, as well as being as daft as brush.

As a serious (ahem) reviewer, I really should be poo-pooing this silly sort of stuff, instead of singing along about poop-pooping, but there's no doubt that after a couple of jugs of mead, I'll be introducing my mates to the joys of "Black Metal Beauty", "The Bitch Of Chiselhurst Caves" or "Warrior Monks Of Whitehawks", and grinning wildly as I sing along.

Jaldaboath are a delightfully daft bunch of Metal Mayhemers you know you should be too grown up and mature for but never actually will be.
