Haque, Fareed: Out Of Nowhere

Guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque is back with a new release entitled Out Of Nowhere. Throughout his career, the eclectic guitarist has explored a myriad of genres ranging from world music to electronic and his new album continues that exploration. On Out Of Nowhere Haque reveals his inner jazz side as he takes on a collection of standards and original compositions.

His backing band is also up for the challenge, letting Haque take on the spotlight but also taking center stage when the time is right. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, these guys lay out some jazzy grooves with a capital G.

The album begins with "Waiting For Red", a mixture of spacey electronics and jam-style jazz. As the song progresses there is less electronics and more of a swinging jazz sound. The guitar work is excellent throughout the disc; just listen to the lightning fast leads in "Flood In Franklin Park" to hear what I mean. The Duke Ellington penned "I Got It Bad" is a softly flowing tribute to the jazz master while Coltrane's "Giant Steps" is probably the most interesting track featuring ambient electronics and an ultra-cool Moog guitar solo from Haque. It is an intriguing melding of trippy background effects and classic jazz.

Fareed Haque continues to make interesting and innovative music and Out Of Nowhere is a prime example. Recommended for guitar and jazz fans alike.
