Malice In Wonderland lay claim to being one of Norway's premiere rock bands and return with sophomore full length album entitled The Royal Brigade. Released in December 2013 via Crank Music Group the album has mixed by John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, HIM) and listen carefully enough and references to all three of the aforementioned artists can be discerned here. A new line-up offers both a new direction and a new found energy for the Scandinavian rockers led by charismatic frontman Chris Wicked.
Up tempo Goth n Trash rock and roll is very much what MIW are all about but they mix it up with the occasional electronic interjections, notably on mid album highlights 'New Year's Eve' and 'Like The Desert Miss The Rain' which pair dark, decadent and moody overtures with the bands naturally good natured party boys image. They end on the glorious emotional ballad 'A Tear and a Whisper' with its perfectly orchestrated backdrop and Wicked's hushed vocals lifting the song well above the average power ballad climax.
It has taken Malice In Wonderland some eight years to follow up their debut album but based on the end result of The Royal Brigade their fans will surely agree it has been well worth the wait.
