If Megadeth, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden played a triple bill – and in that order – the opening band would have to be Scavenger. On its debut, Madness to Our Method, this Irish quartet proves it can infuse old-school thrash, power and progressive metal into a dark and modern sonic palette that's both melodic and raw. Singer Peter Dunne's voice stays in the lower registers while maintaining plenty of diversity and flexibility, complementing Noel Maher's furious riffs and the air-tight rhythm section of bassist Niall Cooney and drummer Johnny Kerr. Some of the songs, while intricate and complex, lack memorable hooks and tend to ramble – seven tracks spread over 43 minutes? – plus, the album is plagued by iffy production. Still, Madness to Our Method is a promising debut, and this could be one of those discs that just gets better with time.
