Recorded in late 2011 at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg, Florida, Live in St. Pete is a red hot live DVD of legendary boogie rockers Foghat featuring the current incarnation of the group. "Lonesome" Dave Peverett & Rod Price have long since passed away, but original drummer Roger Earl has kept the band going, with classic era bassist Craig MacGregor in tow along with ex-Ted Nugent/Victory/Humble Pie/Gary Moore singer/guitarist Charlie Huhn and ex-Molly Hatchet/Wild Cherry lead/slide guitarist Bryan Bassett (both of whom have now been in the band for many years) rounding out the line-up. Though this version of Foghat arguably lacks some of the wild energy that the classic line-up had, they can still lay down some impressive blues rock, hard rock, and boogie in fine fashion. Many of the bands most well known songs are here along with a few covers, and it's all impressive from start to finish. Bassett is a scorching slide guitarist, paying homage to the late, great Price every step of the way, as his sizzling licks permeate classics like "Driving Wheel", "Stone Blue", and "Road Fever". He even gets a little solo spot which is pretty intense. Huhn has always been a talented vocalist, and his solid rhythm guitar adds the punch to these songs plus he is a lively front man. Toss in the classic rhythm team of Earl & MacGregor driving staples like "Fool for the City", "I Just Want to Make Love to You" and of course the mandatory "Slow Ride", and you have the makings of an exciting concert filled with songs everyone knows by heart. A real treat is their take on the Willie Dixon/Cream classic "Rollin' & Tumblin' /You Need Love", filled with dueling guitars and some especially filthy slide licks from Bassett.
The video & audio quality on this one is very good, making for a fun DVD experience of a classic band that is still going strong.
