Let's not count out acts from Finland also wanting to jump on the recent revival of the classic NWOBHM style, as Lord Fist, a new band founded in 2011, are here with this debut EP Wordless Wisdom of Lord Fist, which follows their demo Spark For the Night. Containing 4 songs, Wordless Wisdom of Lord Fist doesn't overstay its welcome, and certainly provides some exciting moments. Fans of the first two Iron Maiden albums, as well as Satan and Manilla Road, will certainly find plenty to enjoy, as this is just seeping early '80s in every way, complete with galloping rhythms and tasty twin guitar harmonies. "Headless Rider" is easily one of my favorites with some crunchy riffs and loads of lead guitar work, and "Velvet Gods" even has a slight Mercyful Fate feel to it in the arrangements and a mix of high pitched vocal wailing & lower register passages that recall King Diamond. On the down side, Perttu Koivunen at times isn't a very convincing singer, and the production of the album leaves something to be desired, but overall this is fun stuff and Lord First definitely 'gets' the NWOBHM style, so it will be interesting to watch this band grow and mature over the next few years. A band to keep an eye on.
