The Canadian horde known as Kataklysm are back with a vengeance, as their latest platter of death metal mayhem, Waiting For the End To Come, is easily the best album they've released in years. Vocalist Maurizio Iacono, lead guitar player Jean-Francois Dagenais, bassist Stephane Barbe, and new drummer Oli Beaudoin (ex-Neuraxis) have put together a real scorcher, easily making this writer forget the generic mess that was their previous release Heaven's Venom. Plenty of fire, power, and brutality to be found here, especially on tracks such as "Under Lawless Skies", "If I Was God-I'd Burn It All", "Like Animals", and "Kill the Elite", with Iacono spewing all sorts of venom with his vast array of deep growls, screams, and bellows, adding variety to each and every song. Massive riffs as always from Dagenais, and the ever present blasting that is a Kataklysm trademark is handled remarkably well by Beaudoin, who slots right in quite nicely. Check out his rampaging blasts alongside furious riffs and maniacal screaming & growls on the explosive "Empire of Dirt" for proof that this band can still deliver the death metal goods in a big way.
If that striking cover art isn't enough to pull you in, let me just state again that Kataklysm are back doing what they do best, so consider this a return to form and worth your immediate attention.
