Winds of Plague: Resistance

Four albums in and I'm becoming less and less interested in what deathcore act Winds of Plague have to offer. First of all, this whole mingling of death metal & hardcore has literally been done to death over the last 5 years, and it's so hard trying to find any band that is doing anything different with this style. On past releases, Wind of Plague at least threw in some interesting symphonic elements to their otherwise fairly solid pummeling assault. Here on Resistance, while those keyboard embellishments are present, they sound more added in just to put them there, and the songs on display veer more into hardcore territory than death metal. Sure, "Left for Dead" is pretty brutal and contains some killer riffs & piano sprinkling, but elsewhere it's generic 'core with 'been there heard that' barks, shouts, and screams. Nothing really grabs you and makes you want to come back for more, and the ever present expletives spouted out by Johnny ''Plague'' Cooke still sounds unnecessary & immature.

Yeah, it's all well played and expertly produced, but Resistance is just so damn generic that it's hard to recommend this over so many hundred releases that sound so much like it. Certainly it will be brutal enough for some, and the keyboard parts are still nice, but the band seems to be letting their hardcore side come out more here and for my money that doesn't seem to have been their best choice. File under 'unremarkable'.
