Recorded just one month after the release of their 2011 album Celestial Lineage, these two live BBC tracks from Pacific Northwest atmospheric black metal act Wolves in the Throne Room show just how far ahead of the pack these guys are. Maida Vale studios is a place that many acclaimed bands & artists have been captured in over the years, and for this group to join that hallowed list is quite the achievement. Both "Prayer of Transformation" and "Thuja Magus Imperium" come from the Celestial Lineage album, and all the elements from the studio recordings are here in these sparkling sessions. What makes this band so unique is their ability to create atmospheric, ambient textures with their music, but at the same time none of their power or ferocity is ever lost. Layer upon layer of guitars, keyboard effects, drums & percussion, and ravaged, growling vocals just slay the listener, taking hold and wrapping you up with their intoxicating brew. Listening to Wolves in a Throne Room is definitely an experience, and with these two epic 10-minute long tracks, let the band take you on yet another fascinating journey. This is a great little nugget to hold us over while we wait for their next studio opus.
