Autumnblaze: Every Sun is Fragile

This is the sixth album from Autumnblaze, a rather brooding and melancholic band that brings together various styles to produce their own take on mellow rock. To the band, this style is best described as "Trip Rock," a label that frankly needs to sit with me a little longer before I can figure out just what it means. What I hear is not so much a new style but a slightly mellower take on post rock. This is music for a quiet mood, times of introspection.

Overall, the album works pretty well. I was impressed with the bright and clear production; the guitars especially sounded clean from start to finish, perfect complements to Markus Baltes' moving and melancholy vocals. He has a rich, voice, one that suits the style of music here really well. At one point, he growls a little, a surprising move, especially for a band that isn't really exploring non-melodic spaces very often.

I don't think this album will appeal to fans of extreme metal, especially if they aren't in the mood to slow things down and listen to music that approaches a calmer side of rock. I know that I don't normally gravitate toward this style. I like post rock, but this is a much mellower version of it. To me, this album made for a good listen, but it was generally a little too relaxed, a little too emotive, for my tastes.
