Dragonhammer: The X Experiment

Let's ignore the terrible name for an album - The X Experiment, which, according to the band ,"is based on a great futuristic concept, a modern fantastic story set in a post-nuclear world where the chaos reigns." Let's even put to one side the band's name – Dragonhammer! What could they possibly do with a name like that? Shoegazing 90's style dance music? Grunge? R'n'b? Ha! Fooled you, they're a power metal band y'know. Oh, you worked that out did you?

Gae Amodio and Max Aguzzi are the key members of Dragonhammer (love typing that!) and are joined by a host of guests such as guitarist Francesco Fareri (Jeff Loomis, Vitalij Kuprij, Virtual Mind) Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth, A.P.D., Mangala Vallis, Ken Hensley's Live Fire) involved in a vocal duet with Max Aguzzi, Titta Tani (Ashent, Phoenix Rising, Takayoshi Ohmura, ex Dgm, drummer for Goblin) and David Folchitto (Stormlord, Screaming Banshee, Prophilax) who recorded the drums for the whole album. So many cooks, so little broth would be one way of describing The X Experiment. Unremarkable would be another, in fact without the outstanding keyboards of Giulio Cattivera there wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary on the album. Methinks it is time that somebody took hold of the power metal genre and reinvented it as there is just too much sameness out there and not enough people playing around with the codes and conventions of the genre in order to keep it fresh.
