I almost don't know where to begin with this one. Oranssi Pazuzu are a Finnish black metal act that in a way, almost don't play black metal. Sure, on their latest album Valonielu you've got some trademark rasps & screams (which are extremely well done I might add), plus the occasional tremolo riffs and blast beats, but for the most part, much of what you'll hear on this record is so damn different that you can't help but give this band credit for coming up with something so 'out there'. Some of the tracks are steeped in electronica and have an almost industrial feel ("Vino Verso" and "Tyhja Tempelli" instantly come to mind), while there's a certain psychedelic, space rock thing going on during a few others. "Uraanisuka" is perhaps the heaviest track here, a brusing number that not only contains some traditional black metal elements but also a few sections of crushing doom guitar riffs. Epic closer "Ympyra On Vviva Tomussa" is all over the map, throwing ambient, atmospheric textures, wild synth driven space rock, and bombastic black metal at the listener. Overall it's not an easy listen at times, but let's give Oranssi Pazuzu credit for creating something truly unique sounding.
