Pursuing the End: Symmetry of Scorn

Pursuing the End are a young band from Parma in Italy and Symmetry of Scorn is their debut album on Bakerteam Records. By the fact of having a clean female singer allied to harsh male vocals they enter a fairly cluttered marketplace but fortunately in tracks like "Mercyful Vengeance" they have the chops to make a niche for themselves.

The band are much more metallic and brutal than other female-fronted bands such as Within Temptation or Nightwish. The immense "Human Revulsion" is the evidence here with some fabulous guitar as well as fine vocals from Chiara Manese. Not content with just trotting out the same old metal clichés the band dips into dance elements to vary the sound on what is a very satisfying album. Yes they sound a bit like Deadlock but to use the dreaded phrase, going forward, there is much to look forward to from this band.
