Sparklands: Tomocyclus

One of the main goals of the main protagonists behind Sparklands ( brothers Thomas Riekerk and Robert "Ty" Riekerk) was to make Tomocyclus sound as retro as possible in an attempt to recreate the classic 1980s AOR sound. That would definitely be job well done as the ghosts of Mr Mister, Chicago, Toto, etc. are all over this. If you are looking for crunching guitars, blast beats, complex time changes then you are very much out of luck. However, if fluffy keyboards, "nice"guitars, smooth vocals and songs with huge hooks are your thing then look no further.

If songs like "Oasis" with its infectious chorus don't at the very least make you want to tap your foot, chances are that you're dead and buried. The one major downside is the unfeasibly syrupy ballad "Shattered Dream" which is so wimpy even Westlife or Boyzone would have rejected it for being too weak.
