Gudars Skymning: Hoj Era Glas

This is a very pleasant surprise. It is very much in the mold of early 1970s hard rock bands, sort of heavy, dense and plodding. And I mean that in a good way. These guys wear their influences on their sleeves. There are all the accoutrements of hard rock: soaring dual guitar lines, rock bottom bass, driving drums. In some ways, this reminds me more of bands such as Bloodrock or Sir Lord Baltimore, and how many bands can make that claim?

Now, I have to admit, lyrics in Laplandish can pose some problems. I have no idea what these songs are about, but I normally don't listen much to lyrics (hey, Magma is my forever favorite band, and try making sense out of their lyrics!), but for all that, the compositions make sense lyrically in terms of song flow. It all works. Now, mind you, most of the songs are sort of interchangeable. They are mostly mid-tempo, sludgy, and heavy. But the flashback factor is high; it sort of brings out a nostalgia in me for an earlier and more innocent time. Likely, most of the band members were probably not even born then, but they have learned well. I give this one 4 stars, and strongly recommend it.
