This little EP from Dutch symphonic metallers Within Temptation is meant as a stopgap before they release their upcoming full-length CD, a teaser so to speak where the main feature is the single "Paradise (What About Us?)", which also features ex-Nighwish singer Tarja alongside Sharon den Adel. It's an absolutely soaring, catchy number that has 'breakout hit' written all over it, so it will be interesting to see just what Nuclear Blast can do with this song to catapult it into the mainstream. Not far removed from some of the more recent Nightwish releases, this one has irresistible hooks to go along with pounding guitar riffs, symphonic keyboards, and incredible vocals. The other three tracks are demo version of songs slated for the upcoming CD, and are also well done Within Temptation fare, with "Silver Moonlight" being a particularly heavy number with Sharon's vocals soaring over the top. "Dog Days" is also quite nice, with a really catchy chorus to go with some chilling musical arrangements.
Based on what is on display here, the next CD from Within Temptation could very well be their best yet. This band generally does not disappoint, so be prepared for more greatness if these songs are any indication.
