Facebreaker: Dedicated to the Flesh

They don't have many albums to their name and their audience is relatively small, but Facebreaker just keeps on coming, much like the shambling zombies that show up in most of their songs. Since 1999, the members of this band have remained single minded in their quest to keep playing extreme music and to bring plenty of destruction to a crowded metal scene. With this album, hopefully, this band should find more of the much-needed attention and recognition that has so long eluded them.

The music on this album is all straightforward zombie death metal. The band plays at a fast pace and never let up until the final note. The lyrics, as one would expect, are all about human death, decay, rot, and destruction. At times, the music can be a bit repetitive, but that's only a big problem when most of it isn't very good. In this case, though, things are quite good, a solid chunk of aggressive and exciting death metal. This album rewards a complete listen, mostly because the best songs are found near the end of the album. The last track, "Tomb of the Hungry Dead" is especially strong. Check out the killer guitar riff at the half-way mark. I also recommend the other tracks with the most obvious zombie themes: "Zombie Flesh Cult," "Carving for Brains" and "Swarm of Zombies." It's probably wrong to describe this album as fun, but it is just as fun as a good horror movie, one that knows just the right balance between horror and humor. Sit back, relax, and listen to the sounds of the zombie apocalypse.
