Swedish guitarist Johan Randén's third album — he released his first one when he was 14-years-old and played with Freak Kitchen at the Sweden Rock Festival at the tender age of 12 — strives to appeal to casual listeners, as well as guitar heroes and fellow musicians. As a result, the 10 songs here cover a lot of ground, from the cool jazz of "Floating Around" to the old-school funk of "Cheese & Miller" to the classic rock of "Funk It!" Think Steve Morse, Jeff Beck and the Flyin' Ryan Brothers.
Three years in the making, Summary also showcases Randén's skills on the bass, piano and keyboards, and he's backed by several capable guest players who add oomph and style. The album closes with "Wind Trees," which sounds like a slow and sexy nightcap to conclude an evening of invigorating and diverse instrumental music.
