Lumus: Bacchus Curse

A gothic symphonic-metal band from Oregon? Oh, yes. Lumus makes music laced with such otherworldly images as a mermaid's tears, a fallen angel's pride and vengeful gods of Olympus. Fronted by jazz singer Charlotte Camp, whose vocal range soars to unbelievable heights on "The Cave," Lumus stands out from so many other artists in this genre thanks to the violin playing of band namesake Jon Lumus. "Challenge" is a monumental instrumental that Kansas would envy, but Lumus' strings can be heard throughout this debut album, adding depth to the inspired melodies.

Dramatic spoken words involving multiple band members open the four-part title suite, which suggests Lumus has a fantastical concept album lurking inside its mystical and mysterious musical soul.
