German death metal act released their debut EP To Dissect Paper back in 2010, and they are back with their full-length follow up titled Ecstasy of God for Apostasy Records. Comprised of Daniel Spoor (Vocals), Tobias Alter (Lead Guitar),
Mark Walther (Rhythm Guitar), Matthias Minor (Bass), and Tobias Blach (Drums), Spheron offer up a varied extreme metal attack that balances between old school sensibilities and a more technical modern flair on tracks such as "The Beheaded Coachman", "Saturnian Satellites", and the raging "Clasp the Thorns". Solid guitar riffs, jackhammer drum work, and effective vocal growls from Spoor punctuate these 12 tracks, and there's even a certain prog element going on in spots, especially on the complex "Pulse of Instinct" and the textured "From Glint To Crackling", each one containing some really stellar guitar work. Though it might not be the most ground breaking death metal release you'll hear this year, it's a mighty fine one nonetheless.
