Damnations Day: Invisible, The Dead

Spinning the new CD by Damnations Day Invisible, The Dead I am reminded of the powerful vocalists from the trash and prog scene of the mid and late 80s, dudes who could really sing, Eric AK from Flotsam and Jetsam, Joey Belladonna of Anthrax, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, Ray Alder and John Arch of Fates Warning, Phil Anselmo's wailing from Cowboys from Hell.

I'd release track 2 "The Meaning" immediately to hard rock radio. There is crunchy, fast riffing in the beginning, plaintive clean guitar for a verse, kick back into overdrive for the pre-chorus and energizing vocal harmonies for the chorus. The drums are in your face and I am so pleased to live in a time when getting a great drum sound isn't infrequent; you can hear the echo on the snare and each cymbal which is a bonus for us drummers. "Lucid Dreaming" is written in power metal fashion and "Reflections" also has some of that flavor combined with more trash speeds.

"Carried Above the Sun" has a triumphant sound like early Queensryche and Iron Maiden including synth orchestra and multiple voices in the background. The guitars are crunchy and the production is definitely on the honor roll. Australian metal bands are riding a wave right now and Damnations Day could please the ears that belong to fans of well-written and produced contemporary thrash metal.
