Visual Cliff: Out of the Archives

Rick Mals, bass and drum composer; and Virtual Cliff founder, guitarist, and keyboard player Rob Perez, are back with a slice of music from their past. Out Of The Archives is a collection of songs that date back to 2003-2007, which were never included on any past Virtual Cliff albums.

The album is now available digitally, direct from www.visualcliff.net. If you order now you will get the digital album download along with an extensive digi-book that goes into the guitar rigs used on each song. You will also receive the physical CD in December along with a free surprise.

Visual Cliff has been together since the debut album Lyrics for the Living, released in 2003. Guitarist Rob Perez and drum maestro Rick Mals "got to know each other back in the late 80's when Rob was in a recording project with some mutual friends". Their mission, "as a band of Christian musicians is to honor our Heavenly Father with all the Glory for blessing us with the gift of music". Well said. They also hope that, "you will find their songs as uplifting and positive as they are (in our most humble opinion) spiritually inspired".

Out of the Archives is a great collection of songs to have especially if you are a Visual Cliff fan. Each track is full of powerful bass, lead electric guitar, solid drums and well-timed keys. The album is instrumental, but no vocals allows you to concentrate on the interesting and unique chords and sounds being performed.

This album is jam – packed with highlights, like the chugging guitar on "All is Unfolding". The charging Rush – like guitars on "Awake in Time". "Cathedral Groove's" quiet and comforting melody is one of the best on the album. "The Falling Away" will make any Rush fan happy. "For All It's Worth" has the powerful spirit reflective of that strong title. "Rise" is a great morning riser full of intricate lead electric, deep bass, and solid drums. "Soul of the Way" is by far my favorite track on the album. It has that haunting melody which I just cannot place, but have heard before. "When Everything is Gone" is another fun rocker full of charged guitar, heavy bass and solid drums.

The digi – book that comes with the digital download includes explanations and descriptions of the gear used to create each track from the album. The booklet also includes some wonderful verses from scripture that helped inspire the artist to create each song.

Overall this deserves to be a part of any Visual Cliff's collection and it is a wonder why they did not release the tracks sooner. But better to have them now than to not have heard them at all. Get Out of the Archives, and begin imagining what surprise they will deliver for Christmas.
