The Fourth and Final Horseman is album number six from these French power metallers and by and large picks up where the previous one, 2012's Army of the Damned left off. Taking the traditional metal style of Helloween, Hammerfall, Sabaton etc as their blueprint Lonewolf pretty much trot out every cliché in the book. As you will have doubtless gleaned from the title the themes here are focused on war, death and generally marching off into battle in the face of the apocalypse – cue an overload of bloodthirsty vocals, sword wielding riffs and chest thumping rhythms. Pick any track here and the results are for the most part the same with little variety or pushing the boundaries.
No doubt fists will be pumping and horns held aloft by their following and there is nothing wrong at all in being old school. Lonewolf are simply lacking in the necessary spark that all of the aforementioned bands possess and are pedaling a tired version of a style of metal that has been done so much better so many times before.
