Grimus: Omnicide

It is easy to discern a good death metal recording from a bad one. Often the bad ones will have muddy production while good ones are clear. The bad ones will have songs that sound identical with no variation of dynamics, the good ones will change up the formula. Omnicide by New Jersey group Grimus sits squarely in the middle. The production is better than average but the music is derivative with song-opening blast beats, mid-song breakdowns, and little variation but some cool rhythmic syncopation.

The vocals, being unintelligible and guttural, are on-par with death metal. If this is your bag, baby, then you will dig, if you know what I mean. Personally, this vocal delivery does nothing for me. Staccato guitar lines and hyper-human blast beats indicate these guys know what they are doing and are very proficient so again, if you dig that stuff then you will dig this CD. I can't get on board but I can appreciate that there is some extreme talent in Grimus.
