A Life Divided: The Great Escape

Hailing from Munich Germany this is quite an album of differing influences and sounds and I can't decide whether I like or not. With a sound comparable to 30 Seconds To Mars & Depeche Mode fighting for supremacy in a wife swapping party I'm not sure where I stand with this one.

'The Lost' & 'Game Over' stomp along with enough urgency and Euro pop like power to get you tapping the foot but it sounds all too safe. If you're a fan of the band 'Pain' then there are certainly elements to A Life Divided that will appeal to you. The 'Muse' like sensibilities of 'Feel' confirm that there are some directional issues with the band. Don't get me wrong it's all magnificently produced and delivered with a German precision of impeccable quality. A swathe of electronic melodies and weighty guitars certainly constructs layers of sound that are not unpleasant and soon grow on you slowly. 'On The Edge' is by far the standout track for me with its growling vocals and almost Death Metal stomp.

The Great Escape is like that step child you grow to love in time, a great sounding sonic masterclass in production I'm sure I'll come around to its charms soon enough.
