Sucker: Sucker
Sucker is a Scranton, Pennsylvania based rock and roll band lead by Candi Vee, on bass and lead vocals; Janson Harris, on guitars; and Timmy Prime, on drums.
Sucker released its first album this March. They got their start back in 2009, under the leadership of Candi Vee and they released their first EP back in June of 2010.
This is hard rock bordering on heavy metal at times band. The soaring and ripping guitars blast off from "On My Love" and rarely slow down throughout the album. Power drums, and solid bass help fill in any spaces in the sound.
Candi Vee's voice is a good combination of maybe the force of Pat Benatar tempered with the style of Deborah Harry.
The opener "On My Love", "All I Know", with some of Vee's loudest and most powerful vocals; the power guitars that open "Fast Nights" and the building crescendo on "Can't Say No", and the track "Getaway" are some of my favorite power tracks on the album.
The best song by a long shot is "Never Meant To" with its excellent slow 90s heavy metal guitar opening and Vee's best soft vocals.
"Telephone" is full of great power drums on the opening and solid/soaring lead electric guitar riffs.
The closer, "Hungry Eyes" is full of a lot of that Eddie Van Halen kind of guitar soaring you may remember from the 80s and 90s.
This album is full of enough 1980s and 90s heavy metal guitar riffs to make any fan of those eras happy. Vee holds her own above the crash and does a great job of delivering her style of hard rock well. This band is serious about keeping their style of rock alive and well. This is the kind of music you want to hear when you go out to a live gig, and I'm sure their shows sell well.
