Russian melodic metallers Steik formed back in 2008 and this three track EP comes on the back of their having signed to GlobMetal productions with a debut full length release scheduled for later in 2013. This EP serves as a taster and makes for pleasant listening although with the lyrics all being sung in their native tongue the actual meaning will be lost on the majority of Western rock fans and reviewers. 'The Wings' is a soothing acoustic and laid back strummer with the vocals very much at the forefront. They take the tempo up a notch for the more urgent 'Choosing on my Own' with an military like assault of bass and drums and hypnotic riff coming over well. 'Final song is the title track 'War With You' and kicks off with some a more traditional power metal assault before breaking down into a catchy and contemporary moody rocker with good use of altered vocals.
Overall an enjoyable three tracks all of which are littered with solid hooks and plenty of melody although if Steik have genuine ambitions outside of Eastern Europe the language barrier will need to be overcome.
