Colombo, Fred: Memoria

Memoria by Fred Colombo sure is for the most part a light album, and I was in fact quite surprised how predominantly soft this one is especially when compared to what we normally receive for review. Fred Colombo is a French-Italian composer/musician and keyboardist with the band Spheric Universe Experience.

Style wise except from a catchy short-lived heavy metallic instance towards the finish of the track "Midgar" Memoria is nothing like to what I was expecting to hear especially with progressive metal band Spheric Universe Experience being mentioned. Besides "Midgar" I do also enjoy the first track "The Sacred Hill" I was easily drawn to its feel and the way this song builds on the same enjoyable music with the use of different instruments delivering an increasingly more imposing sound as it progresses.

Fred Colombo is showing another side to his musical tastes which many not appeal to all the fans of his main band with influences from "pop, electronic, ambient, dance, house, fusion and metal", and as I wrote above anything heavy or metal orientated is so very limited.

To be honest I'm not a fan of the kind of pop music on Memoria so that side of this release was never to going to be of great appeal. Naturally with more of that which I do like I'm sure my opinion of the release by Fred Colombo would be significantly more enthusiastic, but as it is I'll have to pass on this one.
