Rolling Stones, The: Crossfire Hurricane (Blu-ray)

What better way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the worlds greatest rock and roll band than to release a thrilling documentary looking at how they achieved that status in the first place? Though there have been plenty of films that covered various periods in the career of The Rolling Stones, Crossfire Hurricane, put together by the band in conjunction with Eagle Rock and HBO, takes the viewer to their humble beginnings as a British R&B band, all the way through the decadent '70s and to their career renaissance at the turn of the '80s. Splattered with plenty of never before seen live, backstage, news, and rehearsal footage, and with commentary from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, and Mick Taylor throughout, you get a real 'first hand' account of a lot of the goings on with the band during their first two decades together. Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll? Well, when it comes to the Stones, you can certainly expect plenty of that in this film, as you get behind the scenes with the band, warts and all, especially through the decade of excess that was the 1970's. Some of the footage probably never got released for a reason, like Jagger stripping naked and snorting coke off a large knife in the dressing room of Madison Square Garden before their famous performance there on the 1972 tour, but this and many other fascinating 'behind the scenes' moments here just give you a little more insight into what was the circus that was called The Rolling Stones. Well done, superbly put together, and delivered in hi-definition, this is a must see for all fans of the band.
