Markonee: Club of Broken Hearts

Alessio Trapella – Vocals, Stefano Peresson – Lead, Rhythm & Acoustic Guitars, Keyboards, Carlo Bevilacqua – Guitars, Luigi "JJ" Frati – Bass and Ivano Zanotti – Drums make up Markonee (see what they did there?) and they have made a really confident, punchy and fairly hard rocking melodic rock album which may well hark back to the halcyon days of the AOR genre but isn't stuck fully in the 1980s. There's nothing on here that you'll hear in the mainstream media just well-crafted songs, huge amount of cymbals (especially on "Say No",) guitar all over every song and just a generally good record.

This album will appeal to those who enjoy Gotthard, Pink Cream 69 and at a pinch Whitesnake – funny how many bands appear to be influenced by the Snakes in 2013 isn't it? All songs are written by guitarist Stefano Peresson who certainly has the chops required for memorable hooks and riffs. A very satisfying disc which doesn't outstay its welcome and therefore invites repeated plays.
