Krieg: Dead Sound Walking

The Italian Metal band Krieg, was spawned in 2005 by the brothers Cristian and Friedrich Gscheidel. This project resembles elements of '80's Thrash with aspects of today's technical Math Metal to create a somewhat interesting mélange of music.

This Indie released record, Dead Sound Walking, is an 11 track disc that displays quite a lot of power with old school heaviness in the vain of a Nevermore or Annihilator but without the terrifying guitar hero worship that those previous bands mentioned possess. Their music is slightly diverse in a Metal kind of way, meaning they do give some different looks in terms of not being a one trick pony. Krieg changes it up with some fast paced passages and some mid paced rumbling, but all with a bunch of time signature changes that wind up being a bit too much at times. They come across as a Metal band trying to incorporate a Prog element, when they aren't really a Prog Metal band. Know what I mean?

Overall CD Production is pretty good, with musical performances being decent and lyrical content tending to explore the human behavior of the subconscious mind. Krieg's Dead Sound Walking is an average release without any real memorable tunes to get you to keep coming back for more. They are still a band trying to find their way but still have too much clutter in their music to see the light of day yet. Not bad, but not all that great either.
