Inner Distortions marks the debut full length release from Teardown, Gothic / Symphonic metallers that hail from Finland and a band that have been around for a few years now with a few demo releases behind them. Dramatic, swirling keyboard passages trade places with the dreamy and breathless vocals of Katja Pieksämäki, all set against a backdrop of gloomy atmospheric soundscapes. The tranquil vocals are very much at the forefront and at times ('Dead Cry for the Sun', 'Fire in Her Eyes') truly exceptional, suggesting that Katja has the potential to be a huge talent in her own rights should she decide to step out of the band environment. Musically there are some interesting passages as the band build the dark drama and menacing atmospherics with interludes of light and shade, 'Cold Rooms' being a notably strong example of this.
Overall this is a pretty decent debut effort although would perhaps benefit from a little more variation in tempo but if female fronted Scandinavian gothic metal is your cup of tea then Teardown are most definitely a band you should be checking out in the very near future.
