With a sound based on melodic death metal the Chicago group Starkill have taken influences from a range of European bands and their various kinds of metal. Including the groups "Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir and Dragonforce". Fires Of Life is Starkill's debut and to this new band's credit it's a good one.
On Fires Of Life you can clearly hear that musical inspiration from those well known acts mentioned above which Starkill have put to great use, and it is impressive how they have brought it all together. Consequently Starkill have recorded an album that offers up a spirited list of heavy songs with enjoyable guitar licks, ultra brisk drumming and topped of with the growls of their vocalist Parker Jameson.
As Fires Of Life commences the Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir comes to mind for the first time as Starkill enter the darkness with the rampaging blackish metal of "Whispers of Heresy". Then the very cool "Fires Of Life" brings that thunderous enthralling feel of the mighty and epic melodic death metal group that is Amon Amarth.
Starkill's Fires Of Life has more to offer and as they do it so well that I look forward to spending more time with this release.
