Fronted by the comely Nina Osegueda, Time's Arrow is the third album by A Sound of Thunder and follows on swiftly from the EP Queen of Hell which was released only three months ago. Such was the wealth of material generated by the band they are now able to offer a full length album and it is a welcome addition to the musical landscape. Whilst much attention will undoubtedly be focussed on Ms Osegueda, the clear focal point of the band is the guitar of Josh Schwartz. Schwartz is all over this record like the proverbial rash but in a much more positive way. The title track is definitely of the epic variety clocking in at over nine minutes yet with only eleven songs it leaves the listener wanting more with a running time of just over an hour. Said title track is quite outstanding in its scope and wouldn't be out of place on an Avantasia record which is just about as high a praise as I can give. The rest isn't quite up to the towering nature of this song but that is quite understandable.
Blaze Bayley pops up on "My Disease" and to some extent this tells us all we need to know. A Sound of Thunder play solid, classic metal, they aren't offering anything necessarily world-changing but they are very good at what they do which is powerful female-fronted metal.
