Nader Sadek: Living Flesh

Living Flesh is a live representation of the sole studio release from extreme metal project Nader Sadek, In the Flesh. Named after conceptual artist & songwriter Nader Sadek (who also masterminds this whole project), the band is made up of an all-star assembly of drummer Flo Mournier (Cryptopsy), guitarist Rune Eriksen (Aura Noir), bassist Marcin "Novy" Nowak (ex-Vader, ex-Behemoth) and vocalist Steve Tucker (ex-Morbid Angel), with live help from guitarist Sean Frey and Carmen Simones on backing vocals. Intended as a CD/DVD release, we've only just received the audio portion, so I can't comment on the visuals, but musically this is a mish-mash of noisy, avant-garde blackened death metal, chaotic at times and creepy & atmospheric at others. Tucker spews his agonized bellows throughout, cutting through the manic drumming from Mournier and waves of frenzied riffs courtesy of Eriksen & Frey on the nightmarish "Nigredo In Necromance". Elsewhere, look for some blackened death metal with a punk flavor on "Soulless" and "Mechanic Idolatry", while "Petrophilia" probaby features the heaviest riffs and arrangements out of all these tracks.

Honestly, while parts of this live album have some aspects to recommend (including Mournier's amazing drum solo on "Rusted Skin") as a whole Living Flesh, and the band themselves for that matter, aren't really delivering anything truly unique, and there seems to be a lack of focus in the songs to begin with that transpires to the stage. Considering the talent and pedigree of all involved, you would have thought the end result would have been a little better. The sound quality of this recording isn't all that great either, so proceed with caution.
