Holy Grail: Ride The Void

Capturing the old school feel is something a lot of bands are doing of late, with varied results. Holy Grail encompasses the legacy already laid down by Iron Maiden & Judas Priest and adds their own unique modern flavor. With a barrage of riffs and plenty of plank wanking to keep guitar heroes happy, their message is clear, riff, melody ,riff, riff. James-Paul Luna's vocals suit the style well and on opener 'Bestia Triumphans' it reaches siren level while the guitars stomp through. A touch of sunset strip combined with an old school metal ethos seems to work well for Holy Grail ensuring inclusion on a variety of tours. 'Bleeding Stone' has a right old chug-a –thon feel while keeping to old formula of chorus and melody with bursts of guitar.

'The Great Artifice' introduces some growls and venom to its bite, bringing Ride The Void to an impressive end. While the feel of the album is certainly drenched in the denim of the 80's the music is brought bang up to date and works well. Sometimes wearing your heart on your sleeve has its limitations, wearing a patch and giving a nod to who inspires you is a lot more acceptable. Holy Grail have produced a fine album worthy to be included in any collection.
