One of the many things which currently make me feel old is this release; a reminder that Killing Joke have been around for over thirty years. Arguably the band has been much more influential than commercially successful. For instance in the UK they have had a surprising seventeen entires on the singles chart but only one of them (1985's "Love Like Blood") could reasonably be constituted to be a "hit" in the sense of spending any real time in the chart (nine weeks.) The album Night Time from the same year almost made the top ten, peaking at number eleven. Arguably one of their more notable achievements was to chart with 2012's fine MMXII album which shows the tenacity and stick-to-it nature of both the band and their fans.
The Singles Collection 1979 – 2012 is an excellent place to start with all the Killing Joke the casual fan would ever require and I recommend the version with the rarities which is a limited edition. See if you can spot the ways in which this highly influential band has influenced groups as diverse as Nirvana, Fear Factor, Faith No More , Opeth and many more.
