Russian hard rockers Louna are fronted by the eye catching lead singer Lousine "Lou" Gevorkian and Behind A Mask is a collection of the best songs from their first two albums (previously recorded in their native tongue) and is set to launch the band into the Western metal markets of the UK and North America. To set the scene the band have enlisted a strong team to help them along the way. The lyrics have been painstakingly adapted into English by American producer and lyricist Travis Leake (the SLoT), the album was mixed by renowned producer/engineer Dan Korneff (Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance, Paramore) and mastering duties were handled by the renowned Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound, New York.
Our illustrious editor described this one to me as "kind of like a modern day Doro" and he couldn't really have summed it up any better. The vocals are solid hard rock screams and shrieks with the music firmly in the alternative / modern metal camp. Energetic and up tempo hooks and riffs really come to life with the commercially friendly vocals and you can easily imagine Louna getting some airplay in metal circles given the right promotion. How well they will go over at the metal festivals of mainland Europe remains to be seen but this could be the start of something pretty special.
