Live From the Island is the latest release from Commander Cody (George Frayne) and his Modern Day Airmen. Recorded live from Bayshore, NY (Cody is a Long Island boy), this is an 11 song set of fun, smokin' blues & boogie, that almost borders on Southern Rock at times. The Modern Day Airmen consist of Cody (piano, vocals), Steve Barbuto (drums), Randy Branwell (bass, vocals), Mark Emerick (guitar, vocals), Professor Louie (organ, accordion, vocals), and Miss Marie (percussion, vocals), but as always it's the vocal antics & piano of the Commander that is front and center.
There are plenty of fine tunes here to enjoy that showcase just how tight this band is, such as "Riot in Cell Block #9", "Oh Momma Momma", and the organ/guitar driven rocker "Lightnin' Bar Blues". Emerick is a fine player, and his tasty Fender Telecaster licks make an appearance on every song here, like on the smoldering "Rock That Boogie" alongside some tremendous organ passages from Professor Louie and Cody's honky tonk piano.
If you want the perfect accompaniment to an outdoor event that will get everyone up on their feet and having a good time, Live From the Island is a safe bet to get the job done.
