Hailing from Italy, progressive metal band Kanya have delivered a tasty little treat here with their debut CD Coverin' Thoughts for Bakerteam Records. With influences ranging from Symphony X, Dream Theater, Yes, and Deep Purple, the band certainly have studied their craft well and this album signals the arrival of a strong new player on the scene.
Like dramatic metal littered with sizzling guitar & keyboard solos, atmospheric sections, powerful vocals, and just the right amount of complexity? Well, you've come to the right place then. Coverin' Thoughts features stellar songs such as "Flooding Blood", the addicting title track, the pulsating "Wait4More", and the crunchy riff driven rocker "Stronger". The band even toss in the gorgeous ballad "Fallen Angel" as well as the mandatory epic, the 16-minute monster that is "A Paraphreniac Menticide". This one of course is the must hear track on the album, with guitarist Riccardo Nardocci delivering some powerful vocals and blistering solos alongside ace keyboard player Dario Di Pasquale, who also impresses throughout the CD with plenty of raging Hammond organ, piano, & symphonic synth sounds.
Strong stuff all around on Coverin' Thoughts, and a debut that all you progressive metal fans will need to check out.
