In Solitude: In Solitude

The retro metal seems to be all the rage at the moment but this is a re-issue so In Solitude can be forgiven. With a slightly compressed sound it won't be to everyone's taste but personally I love it. Covering the path well trodden by the likes of Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden and most NWOBHM bands, you can get the sense of where the sound lies. Some blistering solos ensure that there'll be plenty of fist pumping, air guitar, denim clad fans happy with the end result. 'Kathedral' and the galloping 'Beyond Is Where I Learn' are true retro gems. With Hornper's vocals sounding like he's singing in a different room it may be a little dated for some more seasoned ears, but I find it brings the feel of what the band want to achieve and I applaud them for it. A lot of Maiden rhythms add to an already full cauldron of metal, it certainly had me listening out for that formidable vinyl crackle at the start of each track.

A fine piece of Swedish Metal that should sit alongside your dusty Iron Maiden records in complete confidence and comfort.
