Mysteria: QED

Mysteria is a female-fronted Finnish band that plays in the prog and alternative rock genres. Mysteria is made up of Niki, lead vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter; RÄNDI, on guitars and keys; JJ, on guitars; Jake, on bass; and Perttu, on drums. They have released two albums before 'QED', 'Out of the Blue', an EP in 2006/07; and Prefatory, in 2011.

'Time to Go' opens with opens with Niki's beautiful voice and powerful keyboards and blazing guitars. Niki has more of a pop or rock voice than a metal scream, which is a nice change. The drums pound hard as keys and guitar weave their melodic magic. Great start.

'Key' is a great showcase for Niki's multi – dimensional vocal talents. From a soft beginning to a more powerful Pat Benatar – like rev later in the track. The guitar, keys and drums are very good throughout the track, but it is Niki's vocals that steal the show.

'Stand Back' opens like an old Saga track with cool keys and guitars, before it unleashes all of the power this band can muster. Niki shouts above the power chords and drums. Excellent.

'No Fear' is another great showcase for Niki's voice. It opens like an old movie track with Niki softly and melodically weaving the story amidst soft strings and bass. Her la, la's later on are wonderful. Classic keys and solid drums keep the melody and rhythm well.

'Learning to Read' sounds like another great 80s or 90s track full of great keys and chords at the opening.
'Beat of One', 'Freefalling', and "If I' are all fantastic showcases for Niki's voice. In fact her voice is a genuine reason to buy this album. The music is very similar to early Saga or maybe early Pallas. All of the tracks are solid, if not at times similar. However, overall, this album is well worth the cost of purchase.
